Default Is it supposed to smell like this?

Last week I bought my first beer kit with everything I needed to make
it.

I bought a malt extract kit, brewing sugar and that was it.

I followed the instructions and tipped it all in the fermenter, put the
lid on and left it.

It smelt lovely as I was boiling the ingredients and within 3 hours
there was a nice foam on top of the brew I could see through the bucket.

Now, I've just got in from a weekend away and thought I'd have a crafty
peep and a sniff and it smells rank, it smelt really vinegary and almost
made my eyes water!

Seeing as this is the first time I've tried to make beer I thought I'd
check as this acidic smell might disperse but it smelt way off to me.

I sterilised everything overnight by immersing the equipment in VWP.

What gone wrong?

Cheers.

Relax, have a brew, don't worry. Some brews taste/smell like rocket fuel
before they're ready to drink.

Check the gravity, rack to secondary when it's ready, bottle when it
clears. Leave 'em for 2 or 3 weeks before you try one.
