Default Toilets have no water shut-off valves

The mobilehome I purchased several years ago does not have shut-off
valves at the inlet for either of the toilets. This has always
bothered me, and I'd like to get this problem fixed.

My second bathroom has developed a problem where the toilet had run
over for a very short period of time, and the floor around the toilet
became soft and the toilet began, over time, to slowly sink deeper and
deeper into the soft spot.

My kids had moved out of the mobile and no one was using that toilet,
so the toilet has been sitting in this sort of, reclining position for
several months. The floor isn't soft anymore, but I want to have the
toilet taken out, a shut-off valve installed and the floor replaced.
And since there's nothing wrong with the toilet, I'd have the same one
reinstalled.

The floor only appears to be damaged in the immediate area around the
toilet and I'd like to avoid having to replace the floor under the tub
that sits beside the toilet. Would it be advisable to replace only the
floor in the immediate (6-8 inches) area of the toilet? What is
customary in this situation?

Any idea how long a job like this would take? I'm going to have a
shut-off valve installed in the other bathroom, too.

Thanks in advance.
Brigitte

When you're paying $95. per hour all jobs take too long.
See if there is a park handyman.

Likely you'll want the pipe snaked and the toilet guts
replaced.

Toilet has to be taken up. Floor covering removed, bad
floor cutout, new wood cut to fit and attached to the
old floor. _-_ Toilet reset and shut-off added if they
make fittings for your plumbing anymore or something
more innovative will have to be done to join old to new.

You'll likely have to find a replacement floor covering.

Time would be about half a day once everything necessary
is there, otherwise most of a day with shopping, etc. If
it went under the tub, walls, cabinet, all bets are off.

Definitely have to agree. Get a handyman for this. My dad does jobs
like this and only charges $15 - $20 an hour which is much more
manageable that $50 - $100.

Can you do any of the work yourself? Maybe have someone pull the
toilet out for you so you can remove the floor covering. (Be careful
not to fall through the floor.) If only the wood beneath the toilet is
damaged, I would just replace it up to the nearest floor joists.

Unfortunately I'm unable to do any of the work. I no longer live in
the area. My son is currently living in the house and he hasn't the
know-how, the desire, or the time to do it.

The mobile is located in rural southeast Nebraska and the handyman
rates are extremely reasonable, compared to where we live now and other
places we've lived. We'll pay the local handyman $15-20 an hour to do
that job.

I was just curious how big a job it was and how long he'd need to be in
the house. My son works nights and sleeps during the day, so I'd like
to give my son some sort of idea how long this could take. Sounds like
2 days max.

Thanks to all that replied.

Brigitte

Those rates sound good. Yeah, a couple of days should do it, depending
on the damage to the floor and what kind of floor covering is going
back in (tile will take much longer than linoleum, for instance).

Let us know how it turns out.
