Default litter box question

At the bottom of cat litter boxes is usually a dark brown or gray
mineral that doesn't scrub off.
A few years ago I tried using CLR I think it was. It bubbled up and
got rid of it. It did not hurt the plastic litter box at all. It
worked amazingly well.
But the strange thing is that when I tried it again a couple of years
later, it didn't work at all.
I don't know why it would work one time then not again.
I don't know whether to invest in another bottle of CLR. I don't have
any other use for it.
When I rinse the litter box under the tap running full blast it causes
bits of the residue to flake off, but only a small percentage.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Default litter box question

Spending time seriously cleaning it is possibly more time and money and
germs than it is worth. I would toss and replace rather than clean.

If you use a large garbage bag as a cat box liner, and then after the litter
had been scooped and refilled a number of times and you really need to start
new, you can remove the bag with no mess left in the box.

Have fun with your cat(s). I miss my "girls," my pair of Siamese, Zelda and
Daisy.

Default litter box question

How about putting in a liner and then the kitty litter on top of that?

The residue is probably precipitated solids from urine. You may not be
changing your litter often enough, if that is what it is.

I slip the litter box inside a plastic trash bag, line the bottom with
a section of newspaper, then pour litter on top of the newspaper.
Garbage bags are mush cheaper than special cat-pan liners.
