View Full Version : Which house code is best for reliability? Is there really any difference?

I was talking to a guy who seems to be very knowledgable about X-10
technologies. He mentioned that using house code A is the worst choice due
to the way X-10 signalling occurs. He recommended using something higher in
the alphabet. When I asked why, he was not able to explain it to me in a way
that made sense to me. Can you help me understand why any given housecode
would be better than any other for general application of X-10 home
automation?

Thanks!
Chip

House code A is most likely what your neighbor's X10 transmitter is set
to. So if there is any leakage of signals from his house to yours, it is
best if you set your devices to anything other than A.

try one. does it work? Good, great to hear.

I was using one (perhaps "J" just randomly). Started getting
interferance - light turned on at 1:30AM. Neighbor was just coming
home to his apt. Hmmmmm. I hit all off. Heard a couple footsteps,
then the light came on. double hmmmm. I changed housecodes. No more
problems.

When I got a cm11a to replace the CP290, I did just set it to "listen"
and syslog every signal it heard. Saw a scattering of use here and
there.

Now I live in a house and it's not even close to being an issue.
